Course Description

This 2-day online training is designed to help designers and developers shift their thinking regarding accessibility compliant websites.  

Day one is all about web accessibility compliance to assure the website team, designers and developers, understand the requirements and consequences.

Day two is designed to provide developers with experience analyzing non-compliant sites based on their own understanding and with automated evaluation tools. And, insight into coding practices used to address common issues. In addition, developers will experience techniques for creating accessible non-web content.

DAY 1

  • Recognizing Disabilities - Understanding the range of disabilities that affect digital experiences.

  • Disabilities and Devices - The scope of digital experience extends to many devices.

  • Motivation - Why you should care about accessibility

  • Don't Reinvent the Wheel - It's about development perspective. Your website design already allows for accessible practices.

  • What is WCAG 2.1? - Introduction to the criterion and understanding how to use the resources available to you.

  • Planning for Accessibility - Mapping WCAG 2.1 guidelines to your current practices. 

  • Testing - Identifying conformance terminology and requirements.

  • Managing Accessibility -  Requirements beyond coding and site building.

Day 2

  • Site Plan Review - hands on analysis of non-compliant sites.

  • Site Review Outcomes - applying POUR principles to asses analysis

  • Testing the Site - Utilizing accessibility evaluation tools

  • Testing What you Know - More examples of possible pitfalls

  • Structuring Your Page with Accessibility in Mind - Understanding ARIA and other tools to create compliant layout

  • Non-web Content - Starting with accessibile documents including Word, PPT, and Acrobat PDFs
