How Drupal Assigns Default Blocks in your Theme

/ 6:19pmGMT

I found this interesting. One user asked how he can make the default navigation set to the right region when someone enables his theme. After experimentation and code digging, I found that drupal places the default blocks to the first region found IF

  • drupal doesn't find any blocks for the theme
  • the region assigned to it isn't supported by the theme

So in this case, the region must be defined as follows in the theme.info

regions[right] = Right bar
regions[content] = Content

If you have a left region and the old default theme blocks were assigned to the left region, then drupal assigns the blocks to your left region. You can't do anything about that.

Happenings at the DrupalCampWi

/ 6:41pmGMT

The drupal camp at Wisconsin was a success. A bad weather did not stop us from coming! John Nollin shared his point of view on Human Engine Optimization. Gerold and I got some really valuable points from the different discussions and BOF sessions in the drupal camp. Good stuff. Hoping to attend and share next time!

CMS road trip - Chicago to Madison Drupal Relay

/ 2:43amGMT

Who doesn't love summer road trips?  We plan on invading Madison last week of July for the July 23rd and 24th Drupal Camp Wisconsin 2010.

We plan on presenting, bringing t-shirts, try not to be annoying fip and learning from others.  John - our CMO is particularly excited about being back in his alma mater.   Hopefully John still remembers where one can get a drink around those parts.

We are also the Drupal Con event sponsor.  Come join us on this fun road trip up north.

This Sunday the Chicago Tribune finally tipped its head towards the Chicago tech and start up scene.  Of course GroupOn has been making a lot of news, but there are hundreds of pretty high profile start ups in Chicago that are innovative, hip, and are doing well for themselves.

Besides Group on some notable companies are Threadless - which are in our Chicago neighborhood of Ravenswood corridor, Meeting Tomorrow, 37Signals etc.

Its just great to see that technology start ups are also flourishing here, after we have seen companies like Platinum Technologies and Orbitz make it big, its time for another wave.
